Mike Childs

The first report from this autumn is very sad. We were affected by very bad news from England, our friend Mike Childs passed away.  I will never forget his hospitality, he helped us so much in time when many people from UK treated us like not equal. Mike with his kind wife Valerie hosted Czech anglers during their first trips when exploring reservoirs in England. Mike introduced us to  still-water fishing and showed us first lake flies.
I met Mike for the first time during the European Fly-fishing Championship held in the Czech Republic in 2002 when I was a sector judge and Mike was the international judge for home competitors.
I was very proud, that I could help as a guide of the UK Youth Team led by Mike as captain during the Youth World Championship in the Czech Republic in 2004. I remember one afternoon when I was teaching a very young boy to fish with nymphs in a deep pool between big boulders, and after he caught nice trout we shared the joy together with Mike sitting on the bank. I have visited the UK for fishing and met Mike many times and I will never forget my first day in the boat with Mike on Rutland  in summer 2005.
If there is a fly-fishermen heaven, I wish Mike nice riffles and tight lines.

Strange Autumn

I have to say, that I had a little strange autumn. Everything started first week in September, I managed some fishing although I was very busy in work and I also solved every day till night some problems connected with Czech Angling Union and fly-fishing competitions, which I always organise in Autumn. Moreover I left work on Friday after lunch to go windsurfing in Lipno Lake, it looked like last suitable day, weather was nice and relatively warm and I had watched fresh southern breeze on the on-line-wind-measuring since morning. Windsurfing was great but I felt a little cold next morning. After some planing for weekend days we decided to join our friends going to a cycling trip with kids. We packed in hurry and stress and everything resulted in an accident, when I went to garage with bicycles on the roof of the car. You can imagine the bang when all bikes flew through the window to the boot of my car…
The car and bikes went to service and I got tonsillitis. I had to cancel competition next Saturday, but I could not finish the treatment as I attended scientific symposium aimed on fish migration in Viena next week. I survived it with penicillin and ibuprofen pills and I was feeling better in the end of the week. Next  Thursday 27.th September I picked up my car in the service, it looked like new and I left for Hanak Open competitions. Our team finished in the sixth place, I will write a special report as well as reports about my fishing trips to Vltava 33 during the first two weeks of October.
On 14th October was angina back and much stronger, I was in bed for almost two weeks with soar throat and high temperatures, my throat looked like burned from nettles…  I thing, that it was last signal to slow down. This time it took me to be relatively all right till the middle of November just to manage some fishing before the end of the season, I will gradually write some reports. The trout season finished yesterday, hopefully I will visit some non trout waters or some river in Austria before the end of the year.
