p1050236 I spent one weekend in the end of June with Maria and Istvan on Vltava River. Istvan is member of the National Fly-fishing Team Hungary and he wanted to practice upstream dry fly fishing and nymphing before the World Championship in Spain. We spent first day in the Warm Vltava in the National park Šumava, fish were active whole day, so we caught a lot of them (brown trout, grayling, come cyprinid fish), mainly on nymph, dry dropper setup and also on dry fly. I also presented wet fly fishing and we caught many of bleak, nice small silver cyprinid fish which realy loves wet flies. In the evening it was opened local pub in the camp in Horní Vltavice and Pilsner beer was a worthy end to the day. We sat in to the car just before the start of a heavy storm :-)

p1050276 Second day we spent in Vltava River above Herbertov, water was a little dirty after rain, but conditions were ideal,  fish were surprisingly rising whole day and they stopped before evening. I did not counted amount of fish, but I guess we could catch 80 fish between us, mainly brown trout, but occasionally also rainbow trout and chub. It was really nice weekend and hopefully it was useful also for Istvan.

p1410120 I had field work in the Vltava River above the Lipno Reservoir within one of my project, so I took gear to the car, just to be sure :-) At the end, later in the afternoon, I had nice two hours of dry fly action which resulted in the nice pictures below, beautiful fish :-)

Grant, Kevin and Keith

p1310932 As every September, my friends Grant and Kevin arrived to enjoy 10 days of fishing on Vltava river. This year, they brought their mate Keith. We met in Hanák Shop in České Budějovice and after quick coffee which cooked Franta we headed to Rožmberk. They stayed in Rožmberk for five days and next they moved to Volary to fish Warm Vltava. I was fishing with them for two days, one in Vltava under Vyšší Brod and one in Lenora, as usually. As Keith was here for first time, I paid him a little more, but he was complete angler, so I only gave him some advice concerning fishing in our rivers and also concerning working with rod while nymphing. It was great fun, I as usually get great crisp-sandwiches for lunch, and we caught a lot of fish of different species (brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout, grayling, chub, dace, roach, bleak and perch), both on nymphs and dries. Mainly dry fly fishing in Warm Vltava was interesting, it was cold weather with wind and clear sky, which is usually not the best for dry fly, and the fish were rising in waves, and they were very selective. But the olive emerger size 20 was the solution of problems :-)

The bad luck was, that I lost my fly box with jig nymphs somewhere during first day, but I took it not as a tragedy, but as a great chance for upgrade :-) I´m looking for long winter evenings at vice.

June workshop

Červenec 20, 2016 - 12:27 pm Komentáře nejsou povoleny

p1240756 Because of the coincidence of dates and availability of holidays of our clients, we were not able to organise whole workshop, and our activities were spread to several weeks. Rob, Ludwig and Richard arrived already in the last week of May and we spend together two evening sessions and enjoyed dinner in hotel Růže.

Main group from Belgium came in the first week of June and we managed two days of fishing, Jiří joined us as second guide. Finally, two old friends from Switzerland joined the Belgium group, we had in fact small workshop. Flow was higher in the Vtava river under Vyšší Brod, so we spent this two days in Černá river, Devil stones and also in Warm Vltava in Šumava Mountains, beautiful days with a lot of fish caught.

Černá river (Black river) got name thanks to its brown peaty water, in the past time, world “black” was in the old czech language used also in the meaning “dark”, old German name is similar “Schwarzaubach”. Small river hosts good native population of brown trout and grayling and also rainbow trout or brook trout occasionally escaping our hatchery located upstream. Best conditions are during a higher flow as fish are not too shy. It is not far from civilisation, but fishing there is really  nice as you can spend all day in pure nature. Best section is between Benešov nad Černou and Ličov.

Second day we headed to Warm Vltava in Šumava mountains, water flow after rain decreases always faster in the upper part close to Horní Vltavice and water is usually clear as there are only forests and meadows in the catchment area. We were parking in the camp in Horní Vltavice and we were fishing in the adjacent part of river. We caught a lot of browns and graylings, occasionally also dace and bleak migrating from Lipno lake located downstream. Biggest fish I get on dry fly.

Then me and Jiří  moved to the south-east part of our country to river Svratka for spring session of the First Czech Fly Fishing League, but it is another story :-)
